Frequently Asked Questions

FREE GLASSES AND a free EYE EXAM is hard to believe...how is this possible?

I don’t have a brick and mortar store so I don’t pay rent, hire staff, pay for heat, lights, etc.

I have been doing this in partnership with the Peter McKee Food Bank since 2015. None of my eyeglass frames have brand logos, they are all made in China (where even branded expensive frames are made) and I don’t supply any children’s eyeglass frames.

HOW LONG DOES THE APPOINTMENT TAKE?

Each appointment is 30 minutes, 20 minutes to select your frame from my 180 frame collection, take all necessary measurements, create your file and pre-adjust the frame you selected followed by 10 minutes to sanitize each frame handled before the next customer appointment.

WHY DO YOU PRE-ADJUST THE eyeglasses?

Due to COVID precautions and the high cost of fuel and transportation, I limit the number of times we meet. Your prescribed lenses go into your pre-adjusted frame, when your glasses have passed my final inspection, I will phone you to advise that your new glasses are waiting for you at the food bank where we had met. When you try them on, they should fit great.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY GLASSES ARE NOT PERFECT? WHAT iF THEY ARE UNCONFORTABLE OR i DON'T SEE WELL?

If you are having any issues, I hope you will give me a call to schedule a follow up appointment so that I can find and correct the issue.

DO YOU DO THE EYE EXAM?

I do not provide your eye exam. I am a licensed dispensing optician, opticians are the equivalent to a pharmacist in the optical world. Your eye exam will be performed by the optometrist in their office. Once you have chosen your eyeglass frame from my collection, I will provide you with a voucher which will pay your participation fee at the optometrist’s office, thanks to the Peter McKee Food Bank.

I LOST MY GLASSES OBTAINED ON MY WHITE CARD, OR I DON'T HAVE ANY OPTICAL INSURANCE. WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME?

If it has been 730 days since your province of New Brunswick social development white card was used for eyeglasses and you are less than 65 years of age, you should be covered.

If you do not have health insurance, I can quote you a price that compares very favorably with the optical stores in our area.

I WEAR PROGRESSIVES (INVISIBLE BIFOCALS) OR I AM LIGHT SENSITIVE AND NEED TRANSITIONS LENSES (THE ONES THAT GO FROM CLEAR TO DARK UNDER THE SUN). HOW MUCH EXTRA WILL I PAY IF I'M USING A NEW BRUNSWICK SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT INSURANCE CARD?

Your white card provides single vision lenses and bifocals with lines. If you want progressives (invisible lines) or Transitions, there is a $60.00 fee for progressives and a $60.00 fee for Transitions lenses that will darken automatically in the sun. $60.00 each or $120.00 for both.
